TTRNA President and the Tobago Executive met with the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and current Ag CEO - Ms. Ingrid Melville, as well as senior nursing management of the TRHA for mutually beneficial discussions on Monday 29th January 2018.
These marathon talks lasted for over 4 hours, where discussions centred on issues ranging from professionalism in the work place, outstanding gratuity payments, transportation of patients to Trinidad, and non-functioning air conditioning system on the wards.
One of the most pressing and difficult issues that were treated with was the lack of job opportunities for nurses who have been awaiting employment with the TRHA since graduating. TTRNA presented its detailed research and stated our position clearly that these persons should be hired as soon as possible.
TTRNA would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Ag CEO - Ms. Ingrid Melville for engaging the nurse’s association/union in much needed talks that will result in improvements being made to the Tobago nurses wellbeing, and ultimately result to the improvement of patient care and the patient experience.
The details and outcomes of these and other issues will be brought to the membership at the next Tobago branch monthly meeting, which is held in the hospital on every 3rd Wednesday in the month. Persons also interested in signing up to the TTRNA health plan, can do so at the monthly meetings or can contact Mrs. Skeete-Cudjoe stationed in the hospital, who has the relevant forms.
