The Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses’ Association (TTRNA), met with the management of the SWRHA on Friday 15th March 2019 on the above mentioned issue. Representatives from Nursing, Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Finance were present. There were 2 other unions present at the meeting. We discussed possible solutions to the longstanding issue of the 40 hour work week. We explained that resolution of this matter would entail engaging all stakeholders: namely nurses. The major issue identified was shortage of staff.
Coming out of the meeting the plan is to withdraw the running shift until a comprehensive plan can be formulated to resolve this issue. TTRNA’s position is one that will be formulated after such consultation is done and in line with international best practice (International Labour Organization (ILO) Nursing Personnel Convention149 and Recommendation 157).
The Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses’ Association remains committed to resolving this issue and will be soon at a health facility near you to get your feedback.
